A time for art - Designed by Clarissa P. Valaeys

I draw my inspiration from nature, tropical plants more precisely. They help me reconnect with my roots, Brazil. The dials were meticulously painted in gouache, with the help of a magnifying glass lamp and a varnish finish on top.

For the watch I’ve created a texture using palm trees in different tints of green and blue. A bit of a bold statement when used as a watch dial.This was my first experience creating watch dials and hopefully won’t be the last. I had a blast!

The Facets of Eyesight - Designed by ZE1

With the artwork ‘The Facets of Eyesight’, I want to make a statement about the importance of our eyesight and the relevance of aid organisations for the blind.

The central iris surrounded by a diamond effect is meant to represent both the beauty and the value of human sight. This work is to remind us how precious our sight is and how important it is to help those who do not have this gift. By auctioning the work, I hope to generate awareness and funds to support organisations for the blind.

Le Petit Prince - Designed by Liang

I would like to describe one of the 40 sunsets within one day of Le Petit Prince, which seems at the same time a little melancholic but by no means hopeless, to point out the intrinsic quality of time and to embody the desire to transcend the defined temporality of a clock piece.

The watch dial with the black lines on gold represents the different paths of life that we pass through in the course of our existence. By using 24-carat gold, I want to represent the potential of our lifetime, which we can fully exploit if we dare to follow the paths that are meant for us. Each of these lines tells a story. The lines symbolise the paths we choose, the decisions we make and the experiences we gain. We walk these paths of life as time moves inexorably forward.

It was an honour for me to create the watch dials especially for an auction in aid of the Christoffel Blindenmission Schweiz. I would like to encourage people to courageously and self-determinedly follow their paths in life, whether they are sighted or not in the world. We can draw our greatest inspiration from other people’s lives and we should make it a habit to listen to them often and for a long time.

I have been fascinated by small heads and faces for many years. Putting my favourite motif on a clock face motivated me a lot, but the challenge for me was to reduce this to a minimal size. I am used to painting my art on a large canvas – usually this is a size of 120×160 cm.
